550 power steering

I have added a Jackson Power Steering unit to my 550 and originally run it off the tractor hydraulics and it worked great. Requiring 3gpm it slowed the loader cycle time from 16 seconds to 60 second. So I put the generator mounted pump on and it works slow. My main problem is when I shut the tractor off it pushes the fluid out the top of the reservoir. The pump is rated at psi not gpm so I think it is under sized. Does anyone know if there is a check valve in the pump that is sticking?
