I have a JD 420 Industrial that someone kindly removed the ID from years ago. I have heard that the difference between a 1956 and a 1957 was the number of bolts holding the starter on, but I have not been able to confirm. While cleaning the front rims, I saw a stamping that was 57 but that could be for something else. Do any of you folks know of any differences between the 2 years?

The starter is the easiest way to tell. 56 has the Allen set screw and the 57 has two bolts. There are some other things as well, but that is easy to tell even from a distance. I have a 56 420U and have had 57C in the past.
