560 Farmall TA lever

Did some google searching to an empty result. Cant believe Im the first to consider it. Has anyone ever reposted the TA handle on a 560 to the steering column/dash like the newer models?

Im wanting to make it a little easier to get on and off.

You will have to design a way to lock it back for low range. A short handle dash control won't be easy to pull back compared to the leverage the long handle has.

hardly think you will do that , ih has it under control. them farmalls are a buggar to get on and off, not like the international models. i dont tink its in the way its just that u have to pull your self up by the steering wheel. just a clumsy design. not a tractor to be getting on and off . international 560 way more easier.

The dash controlled units are on bigger frame tractors with hydraulic TA on/off. They use a cable to move a hydraulic valve that does the work. You would need to engineer a mechanical linkage to move the lever and maintain (as noted) the rearward latching pawl. You can use the lever as a handle, it is stout!! Jim

welp lets see here ,i have had a 450 , a 460 , a S/MTA can't remember how many 560's have passed thru all Farmall's some with fenders some with out and all have had a T/A , Never found it a problem getting on of off some had the standard seat some had the deluxe seats . Must be the way i get up on one that i never found the T/A handle in the rode , kinda like getting on a horse .

It will not be a real easy deal, the 504, 544 and 656 I believe have the type of mechanism you are thinking about. The trouble is they pull in an up motion and go over center to shift into the low position. To go back to Hi they release the rod down. A 560 pulls back on the rod for low and releases forward for Hi. Also the linkage on the side of the TA was changed between the two. You would have to do a lot of precise measuring between the two to make this work. Keeping the amount of movement correct so it works properly and does not damage the TA by trying to operate partially engaging the direct TA clutch while in the low or reduction range.
Farmall 656 TA linkage.

You must be trying to get on from the front. Do like the rest of us do and climb up the rear.Put on a set of fenders with a hand hold to grab on to.

Take a closer look at the 656/666/686 tractors that you are looking to emulate. The TA shifting mechanism down on the TA housing is completely different. It has a cam to shift the TA instead of rods and levers.

You can't just take that part off a 656 and put it in your 560 either. It's a different size tractor. You'd be on your own to modify it to fit, replicate the design, or come up with something completely new.

Like others have said, it sounds like you are trying to get on and off the tractor from the front. Why? Climb on from the back. Use the drawbar or the fast hitch for a step. We had a 560 with a fast hitch and we always got on from the rear same as the Super M with the swinging drawbar.

Getting on from the front on these old seat-rearward tractors to me seems like trying to change your underwear with your pants on.

I am indeed attempting to get onto it from the front and to love the original seat back some. I have a fake hip and I thought it may be easier. Seems like maybe the best solution would be to add an electric actuator and flip the switch to engage or disengage it.

The TA hand lever on the tractor performs physical work to compress the TA direct clutch pressure plate. this force is probably a 5 to 6 pound pull on the handle to latch it rearward. that force is applied to the lever resulting it the linkage having about a 7 to 1 mechanical advantage. Thus making the force applied to the linkage about 35 to maybe 50 pounds. That force must be applied and released rapidly as the TA clutch should not ever be feathered into or out of engagement. When engaged it needs to be held engaged (originally with the little pawl controlled by the palm trigger on the handle) this latching is not arbitrary, and must be positive.
A cutoff TA handle could be replaced with a small one way hydraulic Slave cylinder that would be controlled by an electric/hydraulic solenoid to power it. A truck clutch slave cylinder could work. The pawl and spring would still be in place, making the required latching into TA reduction happen. The hydraulic force could be applied using a momentary contact switch. releasing the TA from reduction to direct drive requires releasing the pawl. Its design requires pulling the lever back just a tiny bit to relieve pawl pressure so it will release (the pawl and latch are undercut so the latching is positive and not liable to self release. thus to release the pawl a rearward pressure on the slave cylinder is needed, then a solenoid action to lift the pawl, followed by release of the slave cylinder to allow the TA to go into direct.
The complexity of this whole process would make it an engineering challenge. Maybe making an effort to move the fenders farther toward the tires is easier. Jim
