560 no power steering

I just replaced the hydraulic pump on my farmall 560, and the power steering went from fair to non existent. I have lifted up the front axle with the loader, which works great. Then I have been turning the wheels left to right with axle raised. It hasn't started working yet. Anything easy to check first? The remotes and fast hitch work fine, can hear the engine unload when top of travel is reached. Thanks

the power steering pump "piggybacks" on the hydraulic pump in the 560. did you replace both pumps? There is a tube from the side of the hydraulic pump that goes into a hole in the housing between it and the hydraulic filter. It has a seal on it that has to be in the right place for things to work. If your other hydraulics are working ok, I would assume the tube was ok. If you used the old ps pump on the new hydraulic pump and your ps was not good before you may need to change out the ps pump. It is fastened to the hydraulic pump but is a separate pump.

I believe you can check pressure to ps by plumbing a guage into port on the side of the pump housing. It talks about it in the IH manual but I can't remember exactly which port. I will check manual and get back to you. When I got my 560 it had almost no hydraulics and some ps. The filter was full of crud and pump was worn out. I swaped the whole unit, both pumps, out of a parts tractor. It took a couple filter changes to get it cleaned up.

after looking at service and parts books, there is a port with plug in it directly behind where pressue line bolts onto pump housing. service book says it can be used to check flow rate, there is a flow control valve on the bottom of the power steering pump I supose it coule be sticking.

My uncle had a 460 that the power steering was not working on at all. He had jacked the front wheels up and it would steer fair. I suggested spraying WD40 on the u-joints on the steering shafts and it turned easy as can be. Later he replaced the u-joints and it turned really easy. Those are a little small u-joint and were sealed from the factory and ah la nearly 60 years later yeah dry and out of greese
