Iv'e been working on a 1961 non running 560 gas, just started to test the radiator for leaks after filling it up. It poured coolant out what
appears to be a missing plug on top of the cylinder head on the card side. Part number 109544R1 may be the part I need but, can anyone verify
this is correct? Thanks.

Hmmm. The temp gauge is maybe 4 inches away towards the fan/radiator from the hole, I tightened this too, it's in the head already. This particular hole is roughly an inch or so away from a head bolt. I can see threads on the thickness of the head casting. Thoughts?

It is just a pipe plug. Looks to be 3/8 pipe thread. Cant guarantee its supposed to be plugged but all 5 of my 560 are that way. (Iol) Lee

I realized the part number is incorrect after looking more closely. I'll most likely take the hood off and get a better look at what the situation is. There sure looks to be 2 factory holes, one for the temp gauge and the other for ? Thanks Jim.

It's just a holdover spot as those same basic castings were from motor truck. That is where those engines originated and were modified for the tractors. Some just had the flat spot and some were drilled and tapped.

Makes a good place to add a heater for a cab and that is what that hole was used for in the trucks, if memory serves me right here.

If you look real close on the side of the block you will also see a casting indentation or protrusion where the motor trucks had a hole . The linkage for the carburetor ran through the block from accelerator pedal to the carburetor.

I don't remember if that showed up on later engines but I know it did on all early ones.

The first 560 that came in to dealer, I went out and looked at it and said, hey, they put the truck engine in here. We were truck dealers also at that time.

HUMMM that is a new one on me . As i have never seen that on any i have worked on or bought and sold . Every one that i have bought and sold came thru the shop and got a valve adjust and a major tune up as most had valve cover gskt. leakage . I use to buy a lot of gas tractors for resale . Now Pete he has more experience then i have he's got 10 on me

I don't remember if it was all or some. I do remember drilling holes in the flat on a few engines but can't say for sure which model . Tank heaters were the big thing in those days before a good block heater came along.

Pete 23 & tractor vet: After reading your replies I checked my other 560s. 3 have the plugs and 2 dont. The 3 that have are not the original engines. I stand corrected on my previous statement that they all have plugs. Lee

On the ones that did not have a plug, was the flat spot on the head where head could be drilled and plug install. Seems to me they all had that from 460 to 806.
