I was setting the valves on my 560 gas and was turning the motor with a wrench and noticed it turns fine to the left the way it runs , but when you try to roll it backwards it want roll. You can put ta in back position and it will but not with ta forward and trans is in neutral. What could cause this, thanks Ken

If you are not real mechanical minded this may just be a bunch of jibberish. The gear train ..planetaries.. for the low TA ratio is always in mesh. A gear train cannot turn when it is trying to operate through two different speed ratios, which in this case are 1. the direct speed ..high range lever forward; input and output of TA turning the same speed through the small dry clutch and 2. the lo side ratio through the planetary set. With the TA in the forward position or direct the low side planetary output has to turn a higher speed, so this is where the sprag or one way clutch comes into play. Since both ratios are always in mesh the sped up low speed drive train forces the one way clutch to allow the low ratio drive train to overrun. By fault of the design when you try to turn the gear train in the opposite direction of normal rotation in the high side or direct the one way clutch does not release that direction so the two ratios lock the gear train from turning the backwards direction. To allow the description to flow better into the previous sentence I am now adding; in normal low side operation the direct dry clutch is disengaged. Then the low speed planetary ratio that has always been in mesh picks up the power flow out of the TA through the locking of the one way clutch to the output drivetrain. Likely clear as mud. If I ever get to the point that I have a TA torn apart I would like to make a video that clearly explains all these interactions in a TA. I certainly cannot find one by searching. Now to the purist I know description of the one way clutch locking to the TA output is not a completely accurate statement, but close enough in general terms.

yes , they wont turn backwards but saying that nothing wrong with it it not totally true. you need to hook onto an implement in the field under load then pull the lever back and see what happens.
