560d bad starter?

I am woundering on my 560d why it makes one clicking sound as I push starter button is it a bad starter or silindod?

It MIGHT be the solenoid if it clicks several times and then cranks the engine. Delco solenoids always wear more on the heavy battery stud where the contact washer hits the bolt head inside. The square head bolt can be turned 1/2 turn so the washer hits the other side of the bolt head. I've repaired several in the past by removing all the wires from the post, back off the nut, push the bolt in and turn it 1/2 and pull back out, then re-tighten the nut. Replace all the removed wires. Did this last summer on the neighbor's Oliver, he was surprised it was that easy, he was ready to buy a new solenoid.

If it will crank after five or ten attempts I'd suspect the solenoid, that's what the Oliver was doing. If it NEVER cranks you can have battery or cable issues, or both. Or more serious starter brush/winding failure.

You could take a test light and see if it is the solenoid or starter. If no current out of solenoid it is a bad solenoid. I agree though check the connections also.

Its a project tractor I'm trying to get running while I'm trying to figure this out I'm changing fluids etc. I've tried to pull start it but it won't start so I'm hoping I can get this problem fixed so I can crack an injector to see if I'm getting fuel
