I may have the opportunity to buy a one-
owner 566 baler with net wrap. It has only
baled 3000 bales and has had immaculate care
and is field ready and looks brand new.
They want around $12,000 for it. I know the
owner and it's had a good home. This would
be my first round baler. What are your
thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. Mike

I think price is a little high for a 566 but bale count(3000) is very low for a used rd baler. If it hasn't baled any or a lot of cornstalks I think it will be a good buy especially since you know it's history.

Mike, I've had a JD 535 for 20 years. Deere makes a good baler. However, I have heard negative comments about the 6 series, including from a relative that owned one (and had a 435 prior). I really don't know what was different (perhaps nothing!) but do your homework on the 6 series to see if that is indeed what you want. There have also been negative reviews of the 6 sereis post here in the past.

Good luck.

I believe the 566 had a different style pickup on it that was not Deere's best work. There was a post not long ago about the issues with that baler but I can't remember them all.

JD 466 rd baler with wide pickup have feeder forks are not one of JD engineers shining moments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BTDT owned a new 466 BRIEFLY.

I've never heard anything bad about 566 baler before now.

Well I let everyone else reply first. LOL The JD 566 baler is a great baler. They are a leap a head of the JD 35 series balers. You can do so many things with the monitor that requires tinkering on the 35 series. Set the wraps of mesh, set the bale size, all from the monitor. There where several pickups available for the JD 566. The mega tooth pickup was the best. Heavier teeth and drives. The wide pickup was not so good. The augers would wrap in tough hay and really fouled things up in corn stalks. The regular pickup was fine in hay but the teeth were light in stalks.

If it has the Mega pickup and the 3000 bales is "real" the that balers is a steal. If it has the regular pickup it is on the higher side of the market. It also depends on the year too. The 2000 model year had some up dated that helped in the pickup area.

I had a JD 566 baler. When I sold it the monitor showed over 65,000 bales. 70% of those where corn stalk bales. The sides where getting thin but the baler would still hammer out bales. The fellow that bought it relined the side and is still using it.
