The foot brakes are "spongy". You can pump them and get some brake. I have lost the link to the Cinci. OH Public Library shop manual. How do I adjust the brakes? and how do they work?

If the brakes are the same as on a 584 it sounds like they need bled. The brake cylinder is uder the dash down on the top of the trans. housing. There is a bleeder on top of the cylinder. It"s not in a real good place to get to either. That"s if it"s the same as a 584.

Yes, your brakes require bleeding. Check the archives the procedures are same for 454,574,674,484,584,684,784,884 and 95 Series.
There is a bleeder screw over each rear axle.
Looks like a grease zerk.

you don't need a bleeder. However you have to pull the housing cover with four bolts that right blew you sit. In between the seat and steering column. Once you have that off. there's a hydraulic line there one that's split with a rubber house about 4 inches long. You need to take vice grips and pinch that rubber hose off and crack the bleeders on the brakes. Then bleed the air and tighten and take off vice grips. It forces the oil through your brake system. I have to do this alot to many tractors because to change the brake piston seal is in the axle and hard to do.

Going to bleed the brakes, there are several ways described here and in archives.

Top off hyd. level, warm up the hyd. oil at 1600 rpm, open the bleeders on axles and do not pump brake peddle, wait until air bubbles stop. What is the benefit of pinching off hose on trans. hump as fallnhorse suggests?

Thanks all,

Bill
