I have been using the Champion plugs in the past. Is there another brand of plug that you would recommend? Do I need a hotter plug for this old tractor?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Also while I am on here. I have a 784 Diesel with fuel leaks coming from up over the engine or in that area. Before exploring the problem. What are your suggestions for attempting to locate the leaking line? Will I have to remove the sheet metal hood? Just wanted to hear some past experiences and outcomes.
Thanks again....

As far as plugs, I like autolites. A lot of ppl don’t. NGK’s are fine.
On the 784 without seeing it, more than likely it’s the hoses on the injector return lines , that’s what usually leaks up top.

What's the "backstory"?

Are you having starting, running, or misfiring issues that have led you to suspect the Champion plugs or the heat range?

The braided return hose is the most likely leaking problem. It seems to me they don't last real long either. It also seems to me I got some regular return hoes and some small pinch hoes clamps like used on gas hose and just cut the crimped outer sleeve off then used the regular return hose in it's place with the hose clamps on it. It has been many years since I did that on our 574 so would need to look .I'll be on it today so could look and get back to you on this.

It's kind of a "duh" answer, but yes, you need to remove the hood to find the leak if you can't see where it is coming from with the hood on. Unless you have X-ray vision, of course, but even if you do you probably don't have X-ray hands and the hood will need to come off to repair the leak.

Still working on my 574, making progress each day. Run into a snag today. Can't find a fuel pump to replace the leaking old one. Can anyone give me a lead to getting a rebuilt pump or maybe a kit to rebuild the existing pump?
Thanks

You can with the battery cover of see most of the return line to see if it is wet. The hood being off is the easiest way to change the return line. And yes I did just cut the out crimped piece off the old braided line and replace with some return fuel hose and hose clamps.
