My 3 point and SCV are slow to raise. The faster the engine runs the faster they raise. Where do I start to troubleshoot? Or just go straight to pump? I have changed fluids and filter.

well i know you do not have a flow rater to test before you start throwing dollar bills at the problem . And you are probably not anywhere close to N/E ohio . On these kind of problems it is best to have the system tested first . then throw dollars at it once you know where to throw the money .

You can replace the pump multiple times for what a proper flow rater will cost. To get a tech to come out from the dealer to do the testing, they start charging from the minute they start loading the truck to head to your site, and that's what, $150 an hour now? Probably a service charge on top of that and a minimum number of hours. Again you are well on your way to paying for a new pump.

Borrow a flow rater, sure, if you know someone who has one. I don't know anybody local that has one that would loan it out, and most people are in the same boat...

So you're throwing dollars at it no matter what you do, and you will likely end up replacing the pump anyway, so instead of it costing you say $700 for a new pump, you've spent $4000 for a new flow rater or $450 on a service charge on top of that.

Air pressure and a few plastic or rubber tips and plugs are your friend. If you pull the pump and apply air pressure to the port or pipe the pump feeds, applying air pressure and listening for large leaks can save you a whole lot of grief. With valves in neutral very little if any air should escape into housing.

Then you can be pretty darn sure the problem is in pump or other valves the pump is mounted to.

Not being and expert on the 584's as only worked on one that is something to know about Thanks . see your never to old to learn something new . When it comes to Hyd. my flow rater is the first thing i go to .I am the only freelance that has one anywhere around here other then the dealers and all the OLD guys have left the dealerships and the new kids on the block are totally lost on the old stuff .

Last i looked for a rebuilt one like i have your looking at over 3800 and god help ya if ya want something to work on the new stuff , you can drop a cool 10 K or over . with mine i can only do open center systems so once you go over the early 86 sires i am dead in the water. i need the extra box .
