584 shifting ishues???

Hey guys was out disking on my 584 yesterday and went to change gears and it wouldn't go into high range. It also wont move in reverse but dogs the engine a bit. It also seems that when its in low the shifter is not in the usual place. Looking at the linkages all seems fine. Checked the oil and it was low, toped it off and still no good. what did I do??

There is a shaft that goes thru the side of the tranny housing that is probably broke. My 574 did this, and you have to look at the shaft and pull on it to tell for sure.It is a small part, but unfortunately, the top of the trans has to come off:big repair.Mark

Hi, see caseih parts at: http://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::mr52557ar374502

Could be item 14 or 15 sheared off inside range transmission. There are different part numbers for the type of transmission on your 584. Could be older style with the with the gear shifters in the slots or the newer style with the "H" pattern. Also different part numbers again if tractor is equipped with fast forward/reverse option.

Bernard le Mechano had the following procedure for Broken Shifter Lever:

I have changed many of those parts, at the Case-IH dealer, where I have worked for. You can remove the lever and replace it by the left side of the rear train. Just drain the oil, remove the MCV control valve ( the plate that hold the hydraulic pump and filter) With a shortened 7/8 open wrench, loosen the sealed nut, remove the broken shaft and place the new one. It has a big spline for the timing. Just align the short lever with the fork.

Hope this helps
