60 JD Points

The points seems to burn(ash) after about 3 to 4 hours of run time. Tractor starts to skip, put in new set and it runs find. Tractor has been changed to a alternator for a while but this just started as I was gathering corn this year.
Any suggestions on whatI can do to fix this?
thanks, Thomas

Did you put in a new condensor when you changed the points? The condensor is a one way electrical switch that keeps the points from arching and burning.
Also check all electrical connections to make sure you do not have any loose wires or partial connections.

When you switched to the alternator, you also changed to neg ground right. When you changed to neg ground, did you change the primary side coil wires also ? Having these wrong will cause hard starting, plug fouling, and other stuff. Don't ask me how I know.

The wire that goes from the switch to the coil, put a resistor in between, go to a auto parts store and get one for a 1955 chevy with a 265 engine 12 volt, and that should do it

Hey 2cylinder,
went to napa and the guy ask did I want a resistor that cuts 12 volts to 6 volts
IS THIS CORRECT
Thanks, Tommy
