GOT IT TO ALMOST TO START. IT RUN FOR ABOUT 5 SEC. BUT JUST WON'T STAY RUNNING. IT HITS ABOUT 4 TIMES AND QUITS EACH TIME YOU TRY IT. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TRY NEXT. ANY IDEAS?

I had a 70lp that give me the start for 5 - 6 hits then stop. After a lot of checking, found that if I held the starter pedal down just a little it would run. That's when I jumped across the resistor and zippo it run. Just might check the resistor. Good luck, sounds like you are needing some.

Jump across the resistor and see if that helps. If it hasn't ran for quite sometime(years) and you may want to try this anyway. Squirt about one squirt can of motor oil in each cylinder and turn the engine over with some old plugs in then remove them and put in the good onesand try to start it. If all the oil has ran down out of the rings it may not have enough compression in which leads to vacuum to draw in fuel. I had a 630 that would act like that a found it had the wrong dist cap on it. It had one for a 60 and the two look very much alike until you put them side by side.

JUMPED THE RESISTOR AND IT DONE THE SAME. THE MAN I GOT IT FROM PUT OIL IN THE CYLINDERS AND I HAD TO SUCK IT OUT. IT HAS A LOT OF COMPRESSION. IT HAS BEEN SETTING UP FOR A WHILE.

On my 730 I put some gasoline in the oil bath with the oil only about 1/5 of a cup just enought to give some gas fumes and it would run for about a min and then die I took the reglator off and rebuilt it and it is still running today. NOTE on the LPs you have to have the oil bath on and fill with oil or they WILL NOT run.

Does it matter what the outside temp is?My 60LP will do that also if the temp is under40.It will fire and die.I jumped the resistor,Iprimed it until the oil gurgled in the air cleaner, set the fuel control(choke)all over the place-no go.It was suggested that maybe the starter was pulling so many volts away from the ignition that it wouldnt run-I pulled it over a 1/4 of a mile and it still wouldnt start.I have went through all the adjustments and settings in the JD LP tractor manual(very handy manual!)It still wont run.I am waiting for spring so I can use it again.Getting to the point of the post, would you post back if you find something? It might help my tractor too. Thanks Moline

IT SEEMS TO HIT OFF BETTER ON THE WARM DAYS LIKE YESTERDAY IT WAS 70 AND LAST NIGHT IT WAS 45 AND COULD NOT GET IT TO DO AS MUCH. DID NOT THANK ABOUT THAT UNTIL NOW. I WILL POST WHAT IS WRONG WHEN I FIND OUT. DIFFERENT ONES ON HERE ARE HELPING ME OUT A LOT. JUST WAITING ON SOMETHING ELSE TO TRY. BUT I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.
