60 valve adjustment.

I finally got around to putting the other head on my 60 today. Could someone give me a little better explanation on adjusting the valves? Ive got the JD service manual but I guess im not clear on the process. When I get the flywheel on TDC the second valve from the right is tight. the rest are loose.

Also, On the number one head stud where the oiler goes, is there any sealant that should go between the head and the oiler piece? I read in the manual afterwards that it was supposed to have shellac but I had already installed it dry.

Turn the flywheel until the piston on the flywheel side is at TDC. Now adjust the two left-hand tappets until there is no movement in the tappet levers. Then turn the adjusting screw out 1/3 turn, or until there is .020-inch clearance between the end of the tappet lever and valve stem. Rotate flywheel 1/2 turn and adjust the right-hand side tappets just like you did on the left-hand side.
This will give you the cold setting so you can start the tractor. Get it warm and make final adjustment to .020-inch.
