60 water pump possibly...???

Good morning to all. For everyone caught up in the snow of the east I hope you've made it through ok. I did lots of snowplowing during this storm & it felt good to put the 60 to use for something besides just bushhogging. However right near the end of the final plowing I noticed I was leaking anti-freeze. When I followed it to where it was dripping from it appeared to me to be coming from the bottom of the water pump. I took this pic while holding the flashlight so it could be viewed well. The drip looks like it starts behind the pulley underneath. I need to doublecheck by putting more anti-freeze in, run it, follow through on my exam more closely. For now, if my prognosis is right, is that indeed the water pump on the other side of that pulley? If so, are they hard to find? Does John Deere sell them new? Is there aftermarket out there for them?

With engine off stick you finger under the water pump as there is a drain hole there. See if it is leaking from there. It could also be the overflow pipe as it dumps out under the radiator and runs back there.

I have a "60" water pump, bought and not used for a very reasonable price. Hate to see it laying around. If your interested, I am in Ohio.

And there are 2 different water pumps, older models, and newer.. the newer have a pipe coming out of them the older does not, and the belt pulleys are different,,one wider than the other..

Rebuilt-able. You will need a Hydraulic press and make sure the retaining clip is removed from the pump housing.

Yes they are not easy to rebuild, especially the older style..

Which ever direction you go, rebuild yours, get one, etc, just know that once you have it on, you refill the radiator, you start it up, it will leak like before. The internal seal needs to seat, or break in. I found that it seals quicker when i cover the radiator and get it up to temp quick, then just run it for 20 - 30 minutes and if the rebuild was done correctly, you should be fine.

Annie, my JD 50 started dripping like that a couple of years ago.
I warmed up a new bottle of Barr's Leak for cooling systems, so it would all be soluble
And added it to the radiator after warming up the tractor.
Stopped the dripping.

Thanks, everyone, for getting back with me. I'm sorry I'm so late posting again....been busy with this snowstorm trying to help others get out. Virginia is NOT used to this much snow. Anyway, this is my first time back on since original posting. Sounds like my first action will have to be running anti-freeze back in & make positive sure of where the leak is coming from. I should get a chance to do that this coming weekend.

Still hadn't gotten out to check the situation out. Had a case of the upper respiratory cold going on. I've appreciated all the help here & will certainly put in a post once the diagnosis is done. I'm thinking I wouldn't mind having a container of that Barr's Leak around in case I ever need it even if not needed now. Where do I find that? Is it sold at Auto Zones or Advance?
