I have just become the owner of a 1957 601 Ford.
Transmission fluid has to be changed pronto. Is the transmission, rear end and hydraulics all the same fluid like an 8 N, also what type of fluid. GL-1 for the 8 N. Also manual No. for this series tractor.

Same message posted on Tractor Talk by mistake.

No. There are three sumps aside from the engine and optional power steering.

One sump for the transmission, a second for the hydraulic sustem and a third for the differential.

You can use CNH 134D in all three.

hit a farm store and pick up a service manual.

as for oils, there are 3 sumps behind the engine. tranny fill is on the shifter cover if a manual tranny ), hyds fill is under left thigh / seat, and diffy fill is under right butte cheek / behind seat.. drain plugs corespond to the fils in order.

the trans fill level plug isd a plug, (not a bolt) about where your right heel.. hyds have a dipstick on left center section, and diffy level plug is left rear axle trumpet.

can use gear oil in the diffy and tranny, and utf in the hyds.. or utf in all 3.
