Hi. I"ve got a 1962 871 Powermaster. I have replaced all plugs, coil, cap, rotor, points, condenser, new battery, and wires. I had the gas tank professionally cleaned and lined and new shut off and fuel line.

This thing won"t start. Doesn"t seem to be getting any spark. It won"t even go with ether. Anybody have any ideas where to go from here?

I was told this was a 12 volt before but not real sure how to determine that. I always recall by grandfather using 12 volt batteries in it

It may be a goofie thing but when spinning the engine is there oil pressure?

I had a Willys do the same kind of thing and it had snapped the distributor shaft and the rotor wasn't spinning. ???

hot wire bat hot to the coil primary.. make sure points open and close and are gapped at .025

post back.

I'm going with the gapping of the points on this one. For me it took purchasing a legit feeler gauge and setting the points with the distributor outside the tractor to dial it just right.

In addition to other suggestions, make sure the thin copper strap inside the distributor is connected from the points to the wire coming from the coil, and not shorted to ground (there is an isolator that can come loose or break).

oil has two small terminals........a simple test light on one (ign sw side) should illuminate when key on AND the other terminal (wire to points inside distributor) should blink on and off as engine is cranked. Do you see these test light indications? With such information you will soon find or be directed to the problem/solution.

Thanks for the help guys. It ended up being the points gap was too large. Once I got it to fire I had to pull the carb off and rebuild it. The thing purrs like a kitten now. I think its the best Ive ever heard it sound. Again thanks for the help.

New question: Wheres the best info at for the original paint scheme? Somebody at some point painted this machine blue and gray and put Ford 4000 decals on it. I want to go back to the original red and gray with the right decals.

Sounds just like my 881...half way done blue and gray paint with 4000 stickers...

Will never understand why people do that. I even know of a 9N that was painted blue and gray.
