620 starter bendix

I have the starter out and would like to know how to get the bendix off with the steel ring on the end of the shaft. Does the steel ring have to come off and if you get a new ring with a new bendix.

Arlo, you must save the ring - it's re-used.

Look at it real close. It's a two piece item. The ring has to be pried out of it's retainer, and both pieces saved for the new bendix.

I see a small snap ring behind the steel ring now that has to come out first, so the steel ring can come off, thank for the output.
