I have had some of my cylinders rebuilt on my backhoe but they do not work any better than before. The swing cylinders are the worst. Someone told me that they might have air in them and need to be bled.Does anyone have any ideas how to bleed the cylinders or the whole system. Any help would greatly appriciated. Thank You, The Locksmith

Your system should be self bleeding. If you're experiencing weak cylinders everywhere, try testing the pressure at the test port that's up near your backhoe controls. You could have a weak pump or malfunctioning relief valve that's reducing pressure on the whole system, or there could be a problem at the control that switches pressure back and forth from the loader to the backhoe. I don't have my manual with me right now, but I think system pressure should be 2500 psi.

Thank You for the info on my backhoe, I had the pump rebuilt also, so it could be in the relief valve. Ill have to check it out. I have been looking for a service manual for the backhoe without any luck, would you know where i might find one? The Locksmith

All the cylinders will self bleed. Swing the hoe full left and HOLD the control for a couple seconds, then swing full right and HOLD for a couple seconds. Listen. Did you hear any pop-corn type sounds or any change in the tone of the fluid? If there was air, you should have! Shut it down and check the fluid level. Is it lower? Fluid full of bubbles? If it is still the same, air was not the problem. If it did drop some, then refill and wait for the bubbles to go away (15 min or so) and repeat until the fluid no longer drops and there are no more bubbles.

I would suspect that one or more relief valve is worn and releasing early. The hoe should have a main relief. Probably set to 1800 - 2200 psi. The loader will also have a relief and it will be set to the same. If one is low, BOTH will suffer. Only a gauge will tell for sure.
