I have spent a bunch of time working on the families 630. Last night I got to go look at the 630, my dad some how cracked the bottom portion of the first reduction casting behind the drain plug. My father was running a 6ft bush hog. I can not find any indication of the casting being hit from the outside. Anyone know of casting breaking from something binding inside?

Thanks
Adam

There is a heavy spring in the clutch area, and I have seen that spring break, found a piece of it in the main gear case, and two teeth off the differential gear. Had to replace the spring and the differential. Only way to tell is pull the clutch and first reduction cover.

Spring holds tension on the cam.

A lot of times the coveris broken from condensate freezing. Possibility someone forgot to drain that lower part of the cover. That is what the plug is for.
