Friend took his tractor out that hasn't ran much lately and the flywheel side bearing seized and killed the engine. So we took the cap off to find bad bearing, but at least nothing stuck to the crank, can't even feel anything with our finger nail. So thinking the rubber packing between the case and main bearing is swelling shut starving the bearing. Next plan is to pull main bearings and replace the packings along with narrow piece of copper/brake line to stop this problem. Crankcase is nothing clean, thinking some garbage broke loose and made its way through the filter(haven't opened this up yet) and caused this problem. Your thoughts??

Maybe take a close look at the filter head housing for any visible cracks from someone over torquing the filter cap.

Had this happen when gas auto shut off diluted crankcase oil.
