631 starting problems

Hi there I'm new to the forum so I will get right to it. I have a ford 631. I replaced the ground cable coming off the battery as well as the cable from the sylanoid to the starter. My problem is now the tractor tries to start as soon as you touch the ground cable to the battery post. I disconnected the starter button thinking it may be sticking but it still tries to turn over. Maybe I hooked the cables back up to the sylanoid on the the wrong posts? I'm not sure any help would be appreciated. Thanks

ssuming that you did not disturb any other wires, and one solenoid large post goes to starter motor & the other large post to battery, then just wrap the solenoid sharply with a large screwdriver handle......it may just be stuck.

One of two things is likely. #1 yes hooked wires up back wards on the solenoid or #2 the solenoid is stuck which I have seen many times over the years and has welded the contacts so it spins the engine over if you hook up the battery. Or you have a short in the wire going from the starter button to the solenoid

Thanks! I gave the solenoid a wrap on the nose with a screw driver and it got its mind right. Thanks for the help!

On the 631, it does NOT matter which solenoid post has the battery cable & which has the starter motor cable. Works same either way. There will be another wire (going to terminal block) from the battery side of solenoid. Only one cable going to starter motor from starter motor side of solenoid.
