64 Ford 2000 died?

Folks my 64 Ford 2000 4 cyl gas tractor died today while mowing. Cranked up fine, ran for about 45 min then just petered out like out of gas? Tractor turns over fine but will not crank. I rebuilt the carb 2-3yrs ago and only run non-ethanol gas in it and it dont sit up for long periods. Do you think it might be carb or do I might have bigger issues?

My 600 was acting like this a year ago. I put on a new
coil and replaced the keyed switch and cured problem.
I don't think you have a gas problem unless it's not
getting good vent. jmo

PerryJosh64,
Check for spark first before you go buy or take anything apart.
Pop the distributor cap off and check the points.
With the key on, you should get a spark when you open up the points.

In my 56+ years of running my 64 4000, I have had the same thing happen many times.
2 coils
Many condensers.
Burnt points a few times.

If you need parts, buy good quality electrical parts. The cheep stuff just is not reliable.

Well I might have found the problem (or another issue). Check fuel line/filters, cleaned them and confirm I had gas flow. When I went to turn crank it saw I had gas leaking out of bottom of carb? Removed the carb and found I have a pin hole in middle of bowl drain plug? Why in the world would a pin hole develop in center of drain plug?

Fuel or fire????? Pull a plug...if wet fire missing.....if dry fuel missing. Coils like to die when hot. Sometimes they are only temp sensitive, sometimes they
just give up the ghost! Never cut one open to see the failure mechanism but have had it happen several times over the years on different types of engines.
Don't have the problem on my tractors any more as they are all diesel.
