Buddy has a 64 model 4000.He bought it with hydraulics not working. He says it appears the drive gear is stripped.Anybody familiar with this?Any specifics we need to be aware of getting it off or more info needed for help? Thanks .First time posting here.

Is it stripped on the inside? I think TSC sells that gear. Some remote valves will not kick out automatically and it keeps the pump working with pressure no where to go but bypass valve. Thats very rough on entire engine geartrain. You can plump in a Pressure switch I believe at the lift cover right side that will turn on a light.

Welcome!

I'm going to get technical on you, just so we all understand. Are we talking about the drive gear . . . or the driven gear?

The drive gear is bolted to the end of the camshaft. If memory serves, that's a front split.

The driven gear, which is really what I suspect you're talking about, is in the pump. If this is stripped on the wobble shaft, you'll likely need to replace both the gear and the shaft. I don't believe this is a terrible job . . . except for the expense!

However, if it's in that rough of a shape, it may be time to rebuild the pump. That will take some special tools and know how!

Thank you.I did say that wrong. It is the driven gear,on the pump, that is worse, but also the drive gear is chewed up.We have realized after looking further into it its gonna have to be split to replace the cam gear. Will the cam gear come off from the back after we split it?Ive looked at a couple you tube videos rebuilding the pump and it looks pretty straight forward as far as rebuilding it.Was the problem causing it to do that likely the bearing on the end of the wobble shaft went down?Im assuming the shavings went to the engine as I see no way for that to have got to the hydraulics? Thank you.We got average mechanical ability, just not with tractors. In Tn. we call us shade tree mechanics. :D :)

There will be a cover plate you'll have to remove, but then I believe it's four bolts to pull the gear from the camshaft.

As to reasons why, I suppose the bearing is a possibility. I believe it's more likely that the driven gear just got loose on the wobble shaft.

Yes. Any wear particles would have gone into the engine.

We have shade tree mechanics here as well. 8)
