641 diesel glow plugs

I am in the process of re-wiring the tractor so that the glow plugs work. I purchased new ones and have the wiring diagram so that part is OK. I am curious though how they work. I am wondering if I have to cycle them like modern tractors where there is a timing relay or do they stay on once the key is turned on and then turn off once tractor is started? I do see that there is a separate relay or solenoid for the glow plugs. Finally, can anyone recommend a good operators manual? I already have the shop manual but it does not have info for starting procedure. Thanks.

You have to manually keep the button pressed with your finger for as long as you want the manifold heaters (not glow plugs) to heat. The shop manual should show that the solenoid for them is activated by a push button switch.
You can find an Owner/Operator Manual for the 601/801 Diesel tractors on Fleabay.

ditto what alan said.

that machine will have another 'starter' solenoid on it and a push-thumb button to energize the relay.. relay connects power from bat to thermal start aids.
