641 Loader Bucket Teeth

I am looking for suggestions for adding teeth to my 641 loader bucket. The loader numbers are I9-20I and 4950. I have never used a bucket with teeth. I imagine they loosen compact soil to fill the bucket easier. I have several piles of compact soil and feel the tractor clutch may last longer if teeth would crumble the soil as the bucket moves up the pile. Right now I have to slip the clutch as I raise the bucket against the pile to get a decent load. Any thoughts?

I have a 641 with the same bucket. I also have the heavier duty front end that was available. ThereI is
also a crane pole attachment. I will get a picture of it tomorrow. When my bucket was repaired (rusted
out sitting for years with water in it) they put teeth on it. Like Dean says, it is not designed to be an
excavator but I have no problems with it. I have rear wheel weights and I think they are about 800 lbs
and the tires are not filled. I have to have a heavy box blade on it in order to get traction.

Here is what I use for a loader sometimes.

It gets very frustrating sometimes when it doesn't have the power or traction to push into the pile as I would like it to. It has the teeth on the bucket edge. If I push it too hard the operator screen will put a message up to tell me so. Your 601 doesn't have that.

Thanks all for the comments and information. Here, I included a couple of pictures to clarify my thoughts. One pic is the entire tractor rig and the other is an example of piles of settled dirt I want to move. The 641 has power steering and a utility industrial front axle. I do not ever get a full rounded scoop of anything unless its fluff like mulch. With compacted dirt, Im satisfied with a half bucket. When curling and lifting the bucket against the soil pile, the flat bucket edge has to scrape hard to peel the soil loose enough to fall in the bucket. My thinking is that bucket teeth would dig in and loosen the soil with a little less effort from the tractor. 1. Does this sound reasonable? 2. If so, which type is better? Individual teeth bolted on or teeth bars? I would want to be installing and removing them from time to time. 3. Can you recommend teeth and where to buy them? Thanks.

Most are weld-on shank with pin-on teeth. Even Amazon sells them.

This company (made in USA) sells bolt-on bar that may be what you want.

Thanks all for the opinions and information. My original question was would adding bucket teeth get the same work done with a little less effort from the tractor. A couple of you thought it may help. I will start looking at various types. Since I will want to remove it occasionally, a bar type would be practical. A ripper type (green bucket) may be better at loosening dense dirt. A Piranha type (red bucket) may be more versatile; a fair ripper as well a brush scraper. Also, some say a Piranha tooth bar does not preclude back dragging with the bucket. Any thoughts or experience?

My thoughts from my experience is that for a two wheel drive the size of the 601, that you should not be trying to fill that sized bucket. If you are determined to make it dig better I would replace the bucket with a smaller one, and with the narrower edge you will be able to push in and then add material as you lift so that the bucket will be full.

Thanks all for your comments. I always learn from them.

Like I mentioned earlier, I do not ever get a full rounded scoop of anything in the big bucket unless its fluff, like mulch. With compacted dirt, I am satisfied with a half bucket.

No doubt, a smaller bucket would be more suited to peeling hard dirt off of piles since the bucket cutting edge is narrower. The tractor force would be concentrated on a narrower bucket cutting edge.

The Piranha tooth bar attachment would also seem to reduce contact with the dirt pile, given the fronts of the pointed teeth are narrower than the original bucket edge. Maybe getting a half bucket of dirt would take a little less effort from the tractor. I may be wrong but if so, I am just curious why. Still learning. Thanks.
