641 or 641workmaster?

How can you tell the difference between a 641 and a 641 workmaster? (Other than the decals.)

I made a comment to my wife of 35 years, about how I've worked with that tractor for over 30 years and never realized how little I knew about it. She gave me a long look, and then asked me if I could see a pattern developing here. (I wonder what she meant by that.)

The 601 series is the workmaster, including the 641. The 801 series with a bigger engine is the powermaster.

All 601's are workmaster and all workmaster are 601's. A 641 is just one series of the 601 model.

And tell your wife it is normal for men to know very little about how the female mind works. We will never figure them out so will always know very little about them.

This one is a 641, but has a 174 engine. I'm trying to find more information on the transmission and rearend casting numbers.

Ummm... not ALL workmasters are 601's. The 701's were also workmasters, just as both 801's and 901's were powermasters. I think the 501's were also workmasters. All workmasters DID have the 134 gas or 144 diesel, though.

Correction for last reply. It has a 172 engine.(310609 casting #)

If its a 641 it will have a 134 engine not a 172, but it could also be a 841 instead. Do this to find the numbers you need to have to figure things out. Take your left hand and lay it on the starter, and your right hand on the clutch pedal. Now then look down at the bell housing and you should see a flat spot there. On that flat spot should be numbers. The top number will be the model number and the one under it is the serial number. Once you have those you will know what you have.

The reason (or part of it)that I ask, is that there are both 641 and 641 workmaster catagories in the tractor registry. I thought there might be a mechanical or production reason for it.

Another question I have is, where can I go to find out about transmission and rearend casting numbers? Thanks again.
