641 sherman transmission

I have a 641 with a step up step down sherman transmission . I had the sherman apart for a leaking input shaft seal and replaced bearings and races while I was in there . The sherman shifts fine on the work bench . It only has high gear ( step up ) when in the tractor . I did shim it when I reinstalled it . Any ideas ?

What do you mean by only has high gear? Will it not physically shift into low or neutral for the standard tractor gears? Or if it shifts into low or neutral will it not stay engaged in those gears?

The Sherman transmission will shift into high range and neutral. It will not shift into low range or standard range .

Do you have the rubber grommet installed around the sherman shift handle? Is the grommet interfering with the shifter movement? Have you tried shifting without the grommet installed?

The I&T F0-4 Service Manual has a chapter on the SHERMAN.

@fran213, did you get your Sherman to shift into anything other than high range? Are you sure you're not just getting neutral/conventional and not able to push shift lever in far enough to get to low/high range?
