641 Spindle bushings

I need to replace the spindle bushings on a 641.

(1)Can it be done without taking the axle off the tractor?
(2)What is the best way to do this?

The spindle bushings can be removed while the axle is still attached to the tractor. I was able to drive mine out with a drift punch. The bottom bushing was driven out from the top down and the top bushing from the bottom up. Some have had difficulty removing them. See the attached link for a recent post concerning removal of troublesome bushings.

Make sure your spindles are not worn.If they are you are wasting time and money if you don't have them repaired.Take the new bushing's and the spindles to a machine shop. They can weld the spindles up and turn then them back to specs on a lathe.I always take the housing's also and have the bushing's installed and fitted to the spindles.I've never had a tractor that old that did'nt need a little spindle work done.
