This 641 is putting gas in the oil pan ,sooo I thought he had forgot and left the gas on, so I checked the shut off by taking it lose at the carb all was good there so we change oil (again) work tractor bushhog about 30 mins works good put tractor back in barn.. This morning check oil level and it,s about 1/2 qt high above full.
I know the gas was shut off... could it be putting gas in the oil while it,s running ? may be bad flot setting ? Need some Help...

Thanks Jeff

old : I ajusted carb just like you should .. idel is good takes gas good runs strong when bushhog,n better then it has in mouths he said after i ajusted carb .. it was out of ajustment bad .. I even set carb with bushhog running for the load at high speed.. the high speed needle is only 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out from bottom .. runs great.. has me puzzled how gas is getting in the oil when i know gas was ( shut off )

Thanks for the reply Jeff

he,s had the carb rebuilt lately they said they put carb in to soke replaced with new parts & float .. Do you think the new float mit have a leak or float not ajusted right ..

Thanks Jeff

An engine that had been idle over night can read high on the dip stick.Pull the stick out.Wipe it and take another reading.Fresh oil will cling to the stick, well used oil not so much.

Cant agree with you on this, good fresh oil will cling to the dip stick and read high.Never pull a dip stick and read the oil level. It will read high.Wipe it and check again.Been checking oil since 1960.Wife had a hi milage Mercury that rattled awful on start up.I noticed that it was quiet after an oil change for a long time. Some oils were quiet for a longer time.Checking the oil on an Ohv engine thats just shut down will give you a low reading every time. You can hear the oil running down on some engines that are just shut off.My 640 will give you a cold high reading every time,Wipe the stick and get a lower reading. If he had no drip with the fuel line disconnected the shut off valve is ok.Gas stations like to check oil on hot engines plus there are those who will short stick you to sell a quart of oil.

my advice is based on the posters statement of oil level being 1/2 quart high.

it's not up to me to judge to know whether or not he wiped the stick and re-dipped it, as he should.

just pulling the stick to look at it could be quite incorrect, depending.
