641d 3pt link adjustment

Took the right adjustable link off my tractor today because it seems to be in a bind. When I rotate the handle to adjust it will rotate the shaft about 1/3 of one turn.

Question ... is the thinner shaft threaded into the bottom part of the link, therefore extending if the thinner shaft rotates clockwise?

I'm wondering if I need to secure it in a vise and put some force on bottom link to move it down the threads? Hasn't been adjusted in years I'm sure.

Bottom line...wanting info before I ruin it.

It's threaded on the bottom and they can seize up. I'd use a good quality penetrating oil, my favorite being Free-All, but there's a variety of these and home made remedies too. You could soak in a bucket of diesel, regardless, should wick in on something like this with the gap around the cast part and the threaded shaft. I had one that required heat to un-sieze, threads were rusted off, ended up replacing the shaft and cast fork/housing it threads into. Hopefully yours is not that bad, if it is, might take some heat to break the bond.

If you get it real hot and dont let it cool enough the threads will gall. I trashed one that way. Now I use the heat and candle wax trick. Just stick a candle to it when you get it hot. Blaster will go up in smoke but wax will wick all in there. One of the best things I learned here.

If you can soak it and get it loose, turn it all the way out and clean up the threads. Probably got 60 years worth of dirt in there.

Remove and invert the adjustable link assembly. Add a good quantity of a reputable penetrating oil to the threaded well that is available once the lift link yoke is turned upside down. Allow it to soak for several days. Clamp the threaded shaft in a vice and attempt to turn the yoke. If still not loose, let it soak longer or apply heat using oxy/acety.
