65 4000 Hydraulic fluid

(quoted from post at 12:06:49 04/18/11) Where do I put the hyrdo fluid in, is the rear and hydro common. Where is the level plug. 65 4000 gas.

1965 was the first year of the 3 cylinder 4000 model. If yours is a 3 cylinder, then yes, the rear end/differential housing is also the hydraulic sump. The fill plug should be on the right side of the top of the center housing, just under your right butt cheek when you're sitting on the tractor. The level plug should be a square head pipe plug on the right side of the center housing just to the rear of where your right heel is when you're sitting on the tractor.[/img]

I'd have to dig out a manual to double-check, but I believe you're right - the level plug is in the (face of the) pump housing... near your right heel.

You are correct Soundguy.

only reason i know that :) is when i got my 4600, I erroniously assumed it's plug was in the same location and looked all over that cover and didn't see it.. finally was told it was a lil aft and above the cover.. and as luck would have it it was a recessed plug covered over with 34 ys of dirt and paint .. found it.. got it out just as the plug inards rounde dout and put a real square headed plug back in so the next time it's easier to service.. :)

Mine is close to the location in that picture, but mine has the engine mounted pump, so in that location all I have is just a plate with some hydraulic lines going though it and the plug.
