65 power steering

I've got a leak in the steering control valve on my Massey 65. I've got the book out hear in front of me, but it doesn't really explain how to get it apart to put in new O rings. It's on page 11 Fig. MF 13A. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried it and broke my punch off in the hole, do I need to remove the snap ring first? What a pain in the nuts.

It's been awhile, I remember having to use a small sharp punch/chisel to remove the seal from around the spool.

Then, if your eyes are good enough, look behind where seal was. There was a special/wrap snap ring in mine. I had to use a dental pick inserted into the eye of the snap ring and sorta unwound it out of it's groove.

The entire spool and spring will come out then. I had my unit clamped in a vice, would be a bear on the tractor.

I got it!!! With a lot of swearing. Now I just need the new seal, going to try NAPA tomorrow. I did mine on the tractor. Wasn't to bad sitting on a five gallon pail. Thanks for the help. Where is Buckeye Lake?

Glad you got it, don't forget the internal o-ring on the dust cover end. The dust cover will pry off, held on with small rivets, I drilled and taped mine for small machine screws since I had it off.

I should've guessed Ohio, I have a buddy from high school who moved to Wooster. I'm in NNY.
I guess I forgot the O ring, my book doesn't show one, so I'll see how that turns out. I figured I have to do something like that with the dust cover. Thanks again for all the help.

I just bought an 85 and discovered that it has a couple problems similar to this.
One is that it has water in the fluid. The tractor does not appear to have spent much time outside so where did this come from?

Second it has a pretty severe leak on the underside of the steering system.
Is there a seal under there that be replaced without taking the whole front end apart?
From the schematics Ive found looks like there is a rack and pinion under there.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

I have a Super 90 that has the same problem, I just haven't got into it yet. I've flushed mine out a couple of times and still have milky fluid. I think the 85 is more like my 90. The 65 is an entirely different animal.
