656 Engine going back together!

Hey guys! Finally some time to work on the 656 again. Had the head
through the shop, got it painted, and back on tonight. Ran a tap in
all the head bolt, and exhaust manifold bolt holes and also a die over
all the bolts. 2 coats of Copper Coat on the gasket, and torqued the
bolts in three steps (to 95lbs), in the correct sequence.

Now, my biggest problem to this point is how can I turn the motor over
to get it @ TDC #1 compression stroke to set the valves? I don't know
what size the crank nut is, but it doesnt look like there is enough
room to get a socket in there anyway. Turning the fan just spins the
belt. This is a Hydro if it makes any difference.

Secondly, once back together I want to check the timing before sending
the tractor out. Does anyone know that procedure on this tractor? I
does have electronic ignition.

Thanks for the help!

Like Jim said tighten up the fan belt And leave the plugs out and Turn it . When the ft damper TDC mark lines up with the pointer your either on 1 or 6 and start if both valves are closed on #1 then your on TDC on #1 If both valves are closed on #6 then your on TDC #6 . You can adjust the valves from either end . Now as for timing you do this at high idle at rated RPM now as to what it is , can't say unless i get my lazy donkey up out of the chair and go out to the truck and look in my books .

Not to criticize , but, looks like you did not back off the rocker arm adjustment screws before torqueing down the head. That can put uneven stress on the rocker arm shaft and push rods. Have seen engines break the shaft from that or bend push rods.
