656 Hydraulic pump

The pump growls bad when cold I have vintage tractor supply hydraulic oil in it the growl will go away after it s warmed up
Should I worry?

That growl is usually water in the hydraulic fluid that freezes and clogs the filter, until the oil warms up enough to melt the ice. Even if you changed the fluid recently there can be enough water-saturated old fluid left in the lines, oil cooler, etc. to create a problem. And if you changed the fluid but not the filter it can make it worse. The filter is under a thick hexagonal plate, just in front of the righthand step.

Keep it simple change the filter and get a manual for it both operators and service if you don't have them. And if you did I would think it should show where the filter is. Also if it has been setting for a week or so loosen the pulgs on thawing days or after it has set in a worm building for several days and see if you get any water out of it. Also after driving to hitch to something check the dip stick for milky looking oil. If it is you need to drain it now and change the filter and the filter probably several times to get the rest of the water out of the system. OR you could use the cheapest UTF to flush it out by draining filling and run some including raise and lowering the 3 pt several times to get the old oil out of there then change filter and refill with the good oil. Should be good for a while then.

has new oil as of a month ago it is a standard transmission is the filter still behind the hex block by the right foot pedal

Yes, the hydraulic filter is below the brake pedals under a hex cover.
