656 stalls after warmup

I have a 656 that I've owned for 2 years. No problems until today when using it to mow. It started sputtering and losing power almost like it was running out of gas. After a couple of these it would only run with the choke on. It was getting gas and everything else seemed normal. Anyone have experience with a problem like this?

Thanks!

Several things can be going on , Check and make sure that you have a full stream of gas coming out the fuel line , could be junk in the inlet of the sediment bowl . Could be the coil is going to lunch . Could be dirt in the carb. And it could be she is tryen to seeze . As a 656 gasser needs hightest gas and if ya think i am kidding you read fuel requierments for that tractor in the owners manual . States a min. of 93 octain fuel is to be used .

Might have a bit of water or dirt in the carb. Try giving it a good cleaning followed by blowing it out good with an air gun. Some of mine have the same problem now and then. Cleaning usually fixes them right up.

Only two things will prevent a well maintained tractor from running: gas or spark. With your creative use of choke, you seem to have eliminated spark as a problem, and you seem to have detected a situation where things are leaning out. So, the advice of the others is sound. Clean out the filter and the carb, and I'll bet she'll run like a purring kitten.

I have just the opposite situation. For a long time, if I even thought of using the choke on my M, she'd bog and snort. And sure enough, things got bad enough with my being lazy, and now she floods and doesn't want to run at all. Sunk float or bad needle and seat, or some such like that there. I need to clean and rebuild the carb. Not the most glamourous of jobs. Boring really, but necessary as heck.

I don't think it is a seizing problem as it turns over easily after stalling. I am using a lead additive and an octane booster. I am thinking something in the carb area is the culprit. In looking around the net I have seen several manufacturers of carbs. How do I tell what carb I have? Also there is and electrical device that is screwed into the bowl what is its function?

Thanks!

Hey tractor vet. I hadn't been on in a while, but the last I was you where missing. Glad to see you back at it.

Between puter problems and everything fallen apart at the farm have not been on much . Then last week i spent 12-14 hours a day on a dozer making a new location for my other friend's new cattle barn. That job turned into alot more then i first thought it would . Since over in this neck of the woods it is hard to find a flat spot , so ya have to make one . The barn will be 200 x65 and we figured that a pad of 100x260 would get the job done , NOT . To get enough dirt to make the fill on the one end we ended up with a 200x350-375 . have a 9 foot cut on the back side with about 18 foot fill on the other .

First off ya don't need the lead sub junk and don't waist your money on the octain booster just put 93 octain in it and it will run fine as that engine has hardened seats and stelite valves from the factor. Check you ing. timing at full throttle and set it by the book@ 22 degrees BTDC .
