656 wheel bearing seal

1966 656 wide front. The inner bearing is stuck to spindle. Bearing looks perfect. Outer bearing got moisture at one time and is bad. Question, the grease seal inner diameter seems large and floats on spindle some. Outer part of seal seals good with rubber on outer part of hub when slide hub onto spindle. Are these suppose to be that way? Just keep big stuff out or my seal junk? Need tractor and got new outer bearing and race from bearing store. Was gonna pack new bearing and pack grease in the inner one stuck to spindle and run it. When you assemble these when replacing everything, do you put seal and bearings into Hub like a 2wd truck and slide onto spindle? Thanks

The bearing should be snug enough to not turn on the spindle and the seal should be tight then turn in the hub if I remember right on the seal. We put a piece of tire around the hub on the inside with a hose clamp tightened up to help keep dirt and crude out of the bearings. If working in muddy conditions it works quite well.
