I’m getting ready to change out a cracked/busted exhaust manifold on my 660 gas tractor. Do you put any dope on the exhaust pipe threads? Any other pointers would be appreciated. Thanks

I would use anti-seize on the pipe threads. Not really in hopes of it allowing removal later rather to allow you to tighten it as much as possible to help the threads engage as much as they allow. And may be obvious, the intake and exhaust should be assembled together just snug and then tightened after the bolts/studs that hold it to the head are tight.

The ( bolts that hold the 2 pieces together all broke and needed to be drilled etc. should I take the flapper out? Is it really needed I don’t use in the winter or cold weather

Leave it in. It's there for running in colder weather in all-seasons, not just winter.

Besides, if the tractor ever gets sold the next owner may want that flapper in. It could potentially decrease the value of the tractor too since it wouldn't run well when it's cold.
