Sorry to post again, but original message is fast approaching end of 2nd page.
I"m concerned about this suddenly appeared high pitched screech from gearbox - especially in 3H & 4H. It"s proportional to speed - DP in or out.
Don"t want tractor to lock up on the road - or for me to strip it down without knowing what I"m looking for. This is clearly something rotating fast - has anyone been inside these gearboxes? I believe the 16 speed is fairly common.
It has aftermarket FWA, but not sure that"s an issue - changed shaft & bearings in transfer box a while ago.
Thanks,

it not the high pitched wine that comes from the hydraulic flow through the check vavles... its pretty loud and obnoxious..

My thanks to those who responded - have thankfully solved the dilemma. I"ll box my son"s ears when he gets back from college this Christmas - I lent the tractor to him for his last day at high school - and he"d left it in FWA. I"ve never needed to engage FWA except for short periods on soft going - certainly not on the road, and I guess it was the small intermediary gears in the transfer box whining - sounded like an air drill or jet engine. Disengaged (it"s a manual lever), it"s back to normal. Phew!!
