6610 Starter wiring

The Starter Soleniod on this tractor has 2 large terminals and 1 very small terminal. I tried hooking a hand held starter button with two wires(positive and Negative) to these two terminals to be able to spin the starter while not sitting on the tractor. It didnt work it only heated the wires on the hand held starter button. Please does anyone know if or how to hookup so that I can spin the starter not using the key so I can try to crank the tractor?

The two large terminals are for the very large current required to actually spin the starter motor. It you connected your wires and switch to those two large terminals on the solenoid the reason the starter wouldn't spin is because the wires and switch that you used can't allow enough current to pass through them. That is also why the switch got hot.

To do what you want to do (I don't recommend it to someone who does not know how to do it properly because you can run yourself over very easily if the transmission is not in neutral, but it's your life), connect one wire from your switch to the large post on the solenoid that has the cable connected to it that goes to the battery, and connect the other wire from your switch to the small terminal on the solenoid.

The blade on top of the starter switch is the control terminal. Apply 12v and it should close the switch. Depending on what starter you have
exactly, the switch may have 1 or 2 terminals controlling the motor windings. Some were set up with 2 terminals to actuate half the windings
for a soft start until the drive fully engaged... and then closed the second set of contacts for full cranking power. I would guess that you
probably have that starter... and you hooked ground to half your windings... and then grounded the whole works out when the switch closed (if
it closed). Probably fried the regulator while you were at it.
