Having trouble removing the 540 pto shaft. Removed the snap ring and cannot pull the shaft out. I thought the snap ring is all I had to remove. Any suggestions?
 
If this is a 540/1000 PTO then I'd suspect that it's turned the splines a bit (twisted the shaft).
I've never encountered that myself. More force I believe is the prescribed method of removal... There's no good way that I know of to get that out. It has to come free of the gears... and if it's stuck in there it might break them.

If you're dealing with a tractor that has only 540 PTO then I think you'll need to remove the 4 bolt retainer and pull the whole mess out to get the shaft out, but I'm not positive on that...
