I've got a ih 674 diesel with the 239 engine, what would be the preferred brand of headgasket for replacememnt ?

there is only one gasket,... felpro makes them. not the best gaskets. there is something about malco or something like that making them also. Victor was the good gaskets , but no more all obsolete.

KR’s giving you the part numbers there, you can get the CaseIH set for around $350 or you can get the A&I set for $60. I’ve used both and didnt see any real difference, might even be the same

How so? German gaskets for a German engine, might be the best you can get.

Yeah I kinda figured that, usually talking about the 74,84,85 series it’s referred to as a D239

I think Fritz was questioning rr reply, he had the wrong CID. The 460 Farmall and IH utilities had a D-236.

Well, I just had to be sure, elsewhere I stated that there was no way a 53 series Detroit primary lube filtration was by-pass, yet there it is in black and white Deere specs. I thought there must be some 460 out there i hadn't heard about.

It turns out that Deere ordered the engine with no filter at all, and chose to rig up their in-house bypass system. What's shown in the Deere parts book was never built by Detroit.

These spin-on full flow converters for Farmalls were all the rage in recent years.... why would anyone want to go backwards? Yet this is exactly what Deere did with this archaic by-pass abortion .

Case and deere both farmed out old tractor parts to a&I nearly 20 years ago.
