6v OR 12v Generator

I have a 1951 JD B, was wondering how to tell if the generator is 6v or 12 v
Do I go by the generator number or the year of the tractor???

your B generator if still factory will be a 6 volt. If you have the generator, it will have a black ID tag if it is 6 volt and a red ID tag if it is 12 volt. Granted sometimes these tags are missing but your tractor should be 6 volt.

I have a 1951 B serial number 297021 and its a 6 volt positive ground system. It is factory at 6 volts.
