6V vs 12V problems tally sheet

I definitely want to add a positive experience for the 12V side. We converted my dad's NAA in 1986. Poorly done Delco 63A 10Si alternator (car size pulley and belt, Chrysler resistor on "1" side, cobbled brackets...) conversion with original wiring. It was refurbished with new wiring in 2019 but same alternator with a 1-wire regulator, B sized pulley and belt, and new brackets. In 40 years it has never failed to start due to an electrical issue and has not broken the starter drive spring (starter has not been out since the late '70s). Not sure what else you could ask for in a conversion to be a success?

!!!WOW!!!

It's a landslide for 12V problems!
Are you keeping tally??
If you disregard the replies from 2021 (made before you resurrected the old thread in August of 2026) it looks like a landslide to converting to 12 volts to eliminate problems. I see one conversion that was botched by a previous owner which MeanGene1 corrected, and I don't see any disasters in the other conversions posted. Looks to me like more are doing correct conversions than in 2021.

As I posted before. A working 6-volt system is fine. If you end up needing to replace the battery, generator, regulator, the practical side of going to 12-volts needs to be considered. 6-volt or 12-volt in the wrong hands for repair is not a system voltage problem.

I left the 8N original until the 6V system failed, and the 850 got boogered by PO who put a 12V battery in it, connected negative ground, so that system was boogered when I got it. I have a bunch of 50's-60's Ford hot rods, so now they all run the same basic system with common spare parts. I have one solenoid and one Mopar ballast resister in the cabinet
