7/8 drive snap-on

Hey fellas. I bought an old toolbox at
auction that had a bunch of name brand
sockets and such. They hadn't been
stored well and showed lots of rust. I
sorted them out and many are in decent
shape. What I did find was a Snap-On 7/8
drive 1 5/8 socket. I can't find much
info on these other than they were only
built for 4 or 5 years in the 20's. Also
a couple of 5/8 drive Snap-On sockets
that may or may not have been built for
the government? Any knowledge on the
history? Are they worth anything?
Thanks

Back in the 60s, we had a 5/8 impact wrench and sockets at the tractor shop. I believe it was a Proto. Only one I ever saw.

5/8" impact wrenches are mainly used by Linesmen these days. IR still makes and sells them at nearly $2000.00 a pop.

They quit making the 5/8 Snap Ons in the 30s. At least that's what the Snap On Regional rep told me when I asked about the warranty on 1 in my 5/8 set. He wanted to trade me a new 3/4 drive set for my 5/8 set, I still have my 5/8 set. Keith
