whats the proper way to adjust the govorner on a 70 g? i have the linkage between the gov and carb adjusted half a whole short at wide open the lingage from the throttle lever to the flat spring on the gov is as short as can be but the tractor doesnt sound like its running fast enough

If the rod from the carburetor to the governor is one-half hole short when the throttle butterfly is held wide open and throttle lever is in the wide open position, that is all there is to that adjustment. There is also a high end, or fast idle stop on the throttle lever under the right hand side of the hood. Could be that this stop is adjusted too low so that the throttle lever is simply not moving forward far enough. If you unhook the rod from the throttle lever, and you move the rod with your hand, that is pulling on it and holding it in a steady position as the throttle lever would do, can you get the speed you want? BTW, you THINK it sounds slow, but have you checked the speed with a tachometer? I'd want to know that number.

I'd sure check the RPM of the engine 1st. You can get tachometers where you put a little piece of reflective tape on the edge of the clutch pulley and shine the do-dad on it to get a RPM reading. I was "sure" mine was slow until I got one of those things and it was "right on". My granddad had a gas engine he tweaked a bit to pump the cattle tank full faster. One day the flywheel came apart and there wasn't a piece left of the engine as big as your hand. A person sure wouldn't want to be on the seat of a JD if that happened.
