70 LP GENERATOR WIRING NEED HELP

Not sure if this is exactly the right diagram, it may help. If its the 4 terminal VR, the wire underneath is GEN/ARM and the 3 together side by side are BAT LOAD and FIELD. Since the FLD wires to the gennys FLD post it shouldnt be hard to figure out. The wire to BAT on the VR is the one thats hooked to the Load (NOT battery/starter) side of ammeter while the one on (L)OAD feeds battery voltage up to the switch. If those 2 are removed from the VR, the one thats still hot (other will go dead) is the BAT wire down from the ammeter, so the other wire (one thats not hot when unhooked) is the one that connects to LOAD.....

HOWEVER if its only the 3 terminal, VR it wires:

BAT up to ammeter, its always HOT
GEN/ARM wires to gennys ARM post
FLD wires to gennys FLD post

Mr. John T.:
Many thanks for this very CLEAR copy of this diagram. I am rewiring my 70 LP also, and I have been giving myself eye-strain reading my copy of a previous posting of this same diagram. Could I ask an "auxilary" question? It is this: Is the source voltage for the tractor sourced from the negative terminal itself on the battery, or does it come from where the cable attaches to the starter terminal? This is not clear to me from the illustrations. Thanks, Hugh

Hugh, like you even with it enlarged I cant hardly tell HOWEVER I can tell you this. If the loads like lights and ignition are to register in the ammeter, THEY MUST BE FED FORM THE LOAD (NOT battery/starter) side of the ammeter. The SUPPLY side of the ammeter can be fed from EITHER where the big cable attaches to the start switch or the batterys - post itslef as thats basically the same point electrical speaking. But any loads fed on the ammeters supply side or the battery itself WILL NOT GET REGISTERED IN THE AMMETER, so Id say lights and ignition MUST BE FED FROM THE AMMETERS LOAD TERMINAL.

NOT based on any drawing, just electrical and ammeter operation.

John T, Thank you, that makes a world of sense! So that's what I'll do and go from there. More questions to come, for sure, though. Hugh

Back to the question i have two wires one black and one white that went to the generator. I had the generator all redone and they put a new regulator on with 3 terminals. Where do i put the black and the white?? Where do those wires go to on the other end?
