Many changes occurred during their model years, what
changes were there both externally and internally that you can
think of, there were many. The fin count is a easy one. Does
anyone know of a tractor with 14 fins per side? There is one
tractor I know of the does. Rod.

On the 770-1070:

Front axles changed how they blocked the spindles from turning too far.

Steering tilt lever to pedal

PTO housing oil fill

Fuel priming pump location moved

locking out 4th reverse on powershifts

PTO lever lock

Hole in block for 30 series steering rod

holes in steering for narrow steering pedestal went away.

Shims added between retaining plate for input gear and end of sliding gear shaft. Pto drivin from crankshaft and not from torque limiter.

The other things I can think of is early tractors had a small screen on the top of hood, later had a black piece of sheet metal in the opening. Early 9+10+11 had cast iron nose, 7+8 always used fiberglass. Early had round mufflers, later had oval. Early open station did not have reflectors on rear of fenders and only one flasher. Several different seat suspensions were used through the years. Early tractors had painted fuel tanks, later unpainted with no fittings molded in the bottom. Early had metal tool boxes , later black plastic. Early did not have pointers on nose panel, later had black ones and the BK Demo's had orange ones. Early had thick rubber molding on dash and lower panels, later had the cheap quick trim style. Early had the metallic CASE emblem , later all vinyl. Early had Full and Add cast into the trans housing to view oil levels, later a decal. Early used a Prestolite alt, later Delco. Early used a different hyd control valve system for the steering. Early tractors had all CASE design hyd couplers. Early had intake manifold heaters, later the starting fluid system. Shift knobs were changed 3 times, first had round, then tapered cylinder style, then round hockey puc rubber ones. Cabs of course with the first year or so being made by Hinson I think, later CASE built. Many subtle internal changes, these were most of the other external ones I could recall, Rod.

Screen under the air precleaner was dropped and the tube got shorter.

On the 12+13, the oil pan changed from cast iron to a stamping.

One I see not brought up was early units did not have a transmission breather but vented through the fill plug,, later units have a breather on the pto unit,,

One of the clutches in the PS was changed. Forget which one, but I remember cutting teeth into the later style disc to match the earlier hub(early was NLA).

The rubber mouldings around the cab glass had squared off corners on the earliest models, rounded corners in about the second or third year. Cab air filter moved to a housing at back of cab and sound deadening black padding added to the "B" pillars in the cab. Some steering wheels had a textured finish, then went to smooth. Originally 70 series were advertised with 3 different seats - the common Agri-King with armrests, a bucket-style and one similar to those used on 30 series. Later these were replaced with one more akin to the 90-series.

The change that made the most difference in the field for me was the change of the transmission cover and power shift valve. The early ones had no hydraulic flow when the clutch pedal was down. Later ones had the same valve as the 90 series and full live hydraulic. I changed my early 870 over.

Hi Rod, this is a great post as I grew up with my father having 1 870 and 3 770s on our family farm with all 4 tractor coming from Loren(ACG). I know it's an older post now as it had moved on to the next page. Unless I missed it while reading the post what is the Case tractor with 14 fins? Thanks Gregg
