70 Series Side Panel Fin Count

This is my Grandson on the 870 with 8 fins on side panel, our gas 870 has 10 and the white one has 6. The 1070 BK has 8 and all our white ones have 6. Were they saving money or is less better? LOL, Rod.

1370 rod; in the first year of the 70 series production they had 3 different number of louvers. the very first ones had 12 louvers for a very short time.then they went to 10 louvers for a short time again. then they went with the 8 louvers which they used for quite a while.then sometime around 1974 they went to the final 6 louvers on all of the following 70 series. I have the first proto type 70 series built and it has 12 louvers. I also have the 35'th 970 made and it also has 12 louvers.if you examine the pictures from theCASE EXPO at bong air force base in august of 1969 it appears all of the tractors there had the 12 louvers. my second 970 was at that show. hope this info helps. john thierer
